Are you a school? In the UK, schools spend an average of £100m on electricity each year. Encouraging your pupils to take small steps in the classroom, such as cutting out draughts, closing doors and windows or switching off lights and electrical appliances when not in use, will reduce your school’s energy bill and reduce your carbon emissions.
Introducing energy-saving light bulbs which last up to ten times longer than ordinary ones will save between £5 and £10 per bulb, per year. Considering the amount of light bulbs required in schools, this change could prove to be a massive saving.
Many schools are already using OWL electricity monitors to track the cost and carbon emissions from their electricity usage. OWL is simple to install and the display is easy for pupils to read as they can see by the second, minute, hour, day and week what the electricity consumption is.
It is now possible send information from the OWL direct to a PC with the new OWL USB Connect product which can build graphs, charts, make comparisons over specific periods of time and help you and your pupils to set energy saving targets.
One of the main sources of wasted energy comes from appliances being left on standby which the OWL electricity monitor can clearly demonstrate in terms of cost and KW. This is important for students to understand about saving energy. OWL also has a range of Power Saver Strips which conveniently switch off appliances on standby with one click of a button.
OWL Power Saver Strips are already used in the home especially with home entertainment appliances including the TV, DVD player, set top box, games consoles and stereo which typically are left to languish on standby overnight but could be switched off with the click of just one button. In the classroom, Power Saver Strips could be used for PCs and any other technical equipment in use.
To make an enquiry about purchasing any of the OWL products mentioned here or to discuss your school’s energy saving requirements further call customer service: 01256 383439 or email schools@theowl.com To discuss your schools' energy saving requirements, we need to know two things when you contact us:
1. Does your school have a 3 phase or single phase electricity supply (schools are often 3 phase)?
2. What is the diameter (thickness) of the cables between your meter and distribution board (you will have either a single cable for single phase or 3 cables for 3-phase)?
To use the OWL, it needs to be situated no further than 30m away from the transmitter which is usually positioned next to the meter.
