  • Not share your Personal Data if you don't allow us to.
  • Keep your data safe and secure using best-in-class practices such as the use of trusted Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) cryptographic protocol.
Websites & Servers

Additionally OWL operates various secure operational servers as part of the OWL Intuition service. These additional servers are not directly accessible by the public.

OWL Intuition System

When you first install OWL Intuition you will need to create an account on our secure servers. This will require a unique username and password of your choice (please choose a strong and safe password). You are responsible for keeping your password confidential. We will never ask you to disclose your password. The first username you set up will be given full administration rights to make any system changes that are permitted by a user. Additional users can be added if required and these sub-users may also be assigned full administration rights or restricted to monitoring and basic system changes.

We will also collect your email address, to be used as our primary means of general communications with you about your OWL Intuition system.

Information the OWL Intuition System Collects

The OWL Intuition system collects and uses:

  • Installation and setup information
  • Environmental, occupancy and energy usage data
  • Technical system data
  • Installation and setup information

When you install or upgrade your OWL Intuition system you will be installing a number of units which provide information not expressly asked for; such as the number of heating zones in your property, times of operation of your heating, and electricity usage habits. We will also expressly ask for information about your property such as the Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating for your home, and a part of your postal code. The partial Postcode for your home is used for various purposes, such as to obtain weather information for your locality in order to assist with optimising heating calculations, and to calculate when sunrise & sunset will be. This information is then used intelligently by our servers to set up and maintain the optimal configuration for OWL Intuition, to best match your lifestyle, taking into account the physical aspects of your home and your preferences.

Environmental, occupancy and energy data

Depending upon which OWL Intuition equipment you have installed and which software applications you use, we will continually sense and collect data such as room temperature, hot water temperature, electricity generation & consumption, gas consumption, water consumption, humidity, ambient light level, carbon monoxide level. This information is recorded by the OWL Intuition servers and used in various ways including a) dynamically controlling connected devices such as boilers and immersion heaters; b) calculating optimal times to turn on or off connected devices; c) optimising OWL Intuition configurations and settings; d) identifying exceptions, unusual and abnormal patterns; e) presenting you with current and historic data via computer and/or smart phone interfaces; f) communicating with you to make suggestions and recommendations on how you might save energy and/or money. This may include the identification and recommendation of third party products or services that OWL has identified as being of specific potential value and relevance to you and your home.

The OWL Intuition system is most effective if it has knowledge of the occupancy patterns of your home. Occupancy status is derived / assumed from the data collected.

Technical system data

We record details of the OWL Intuition equipment and smart phone apps that you have. This includes type, model, serial number, MAC address, software / firmware version, battery charge level. This information is a vital aid should you ever need our help to troubleshoot a problem.

What Additional Information does OWL Collect?

OWL Intuition requires a broadband Internet connection to function as intended. The Network OWL device plugs into your existing broadband Internet router to communicate with our servers. In addition to the data described above, this communication may include your IP address and other routing information obtained from your router. OWL Intuition uses Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) cryptographic protocol for all communications in and out of your router.

We will use your data in an anonymous form in order that we can obtain quotations and proposals from third parties for products and services that we believe will save you energy or money. Should you subsequently choose to purchase the product or service recommended, you will provide the third party directly with any Personal Data necessary to fulfil that order.

We will always take precautions to ensure that the information cannot be linked back to you. Additionally, we require our partners receiving such information to keep it in its anonymous form.

We will disclose information to competent law enforcement agencies to the extent required to do so by law, in connection with our legal obligations and/or any legal proceedings or prospective legal proceedings.
